Super Titanium models – Eco-Drive & Automatic

In 2024, Citizen celebrated its 100th anniversary with over 50 years of titanium watch experience

New chronographs, three-hand models & small seconds

For some, titanium watches have recently become all the rage – for Citizen, they have been on-trend for over 50 years. The traditional Japanese brand presented the world's first titanium watch back in 1970. To this day, watches made from this particularly resistant and lightweight metal are an integral part of the model portfolio.

This year, too, Citizen is presenting 11 new models made of Super Titanium, an in-house development. These include four chronograph models and three three-hand models with Eco-Drive, along with four automatic models with off-centre seconds (small seconds display).

Historic: retro design from the 80s

Citizen drew inspiration for the design of the three new model ranges from its own history. Vintage watches from the 80s were the main influence behind the case shapes and integrated bracelets. The dials in turn pick up on the theme of titanium, with their texture suggesting the crystalline structure of the untreated metal.

At Citizen, Eco-Drive stands for contemporary solar-powered drive. The new Super Titanium chronographs also come with a solar-powered in-house quartz movement (B620 calibre). In addition, they are equipped with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, are water-resistant to 10 bar and have a diameter of 42 mm.

In addition to the chronographs with Eco-Drive, Citizen presents a classic three-hand version with a smaller diameter. It also features a Super Titanium case and bracelet and a solar-powered quartz movement produced in-house (J800 calibre). Additional data: sapphire crystal, water-resistant to 10 bar and a diameter of 39.5 mm.

The “Small Seconds” – a throwback

It is the most original form of seconds display. In the early days of watchmaking, this was the most common and technically obvious solution for indicating the seconds on pocket watches. For Citizen, it harks back to this time, fitting for the 100th anniversary. As the first Citizen watch from 1924 – a pocket watch – also had this kind of small seconds display.

Super Titanium – advantages & properties

In brief: Super Titanium from Citizen stands for solid pure titanium (grade 2), which achieves five times the surface hardness of stainless steel thanks to a proprietary surface hardening technique (Duratect). It is therefore impervious to scratches, 40 per cent lighter than stainless steel, anti-allergenic (hypoallergenic) and corrosion-resistant. Due to its exceptional properties, Citizen's Super Titanium is even used in Japanese space travel.
