DURATECT colour variations

DURATECT is a CITIZEN proprietary surface-hardening technology. It protects the pristine appearance of the watch by treating the surfaces of the case and bracelet materials via special processes. There are many surface-hardening technologies. Of these, DURATECT alone is recognised as having achieved hardness levels of over 1,000 HV and met the very highest quality standards. Sakura pink, DLC Blue, Amber yellow—the list goes on. None of our competitors can match DURATECT for its range of distinctive colours.

This version of DURATECT hardens the surface of the actual materials to make them resistant to nicks and bumps as well as scratches. Because it works directly on the titanium materials, it has excellent hypoallergenic properties at the same time as highlighting titanium’s beautiful purity by accentuating its natural shine and texture.

This adaptation of industrial-use diamond-like carbon (DLC) for watches is a CITIZEN proprietary technology. In addition to the gorgeous black hue, superior scratch resistance and smoothness to the touch typical of DLC, it is hypoallergenic and has an external appearance suitable for jewellery watches.

This blue DLC was created through a sophisticated technology that controls the reflection and refraction of light with great precision. The shine developed only after overcoming numerous technical challenges interacts with the circumambient light to generate a gorgeous sense of depth.

A DURATECT DLC coating is applied to a crystal pattern created by heat-treating titanium according to a proprietary method. The shine of the crystals changes depending on the viewing angle. This makes for a beautiful look that is at once unique and rich in variety.

Titanium’s supposed natural drawbacks include being ‘soft and easily scratched’ and being ‘unable to express rich colours, impossible to polish to a fine finish and having no shine.’ We overcame all these disadvantages—and by doing so, we opened up new possibilities for watch materials.
